Experience

Mark is an advisor, consultant, and coach who works with individuals, teams, and organizations to help them function more effectively and efficiently. As the President of Nevins Consulting, he develops programs and helps solve problems in three main areas:

  • Executive Development and Coaching: senior-level executive assessment and coaching; work with executive teams to improve effectiveness and strategic planning.
  • Organizational Development: organizational design, strategy, and effectiveness; change management; and communication and cultural change.
  • Team Work and Program Creation: design and facilitation of strategic off-sites; leadership and management programs; and design and delivery of training curricula.

For more than fifteen years, Mark has been advising and consulting to senior executives of large and small organizations in many industries, in the private and public sectors. He is a moderator for The Aspen Institute's flagship Executive Seminar on Values-Based Leadership and the special seminar Leading Change, and he also helps lead the Institute's Custom Seminars Program. Mark also serves on the Advisory Council for the Institute of Executive Development (IED).

Mark has studied leadership, management, and organizational development extensively. He regularly guest lectures on major business school campuses, and he writes in his areas of expertise. Salient publications include The Advice Business, a book on management consulting of which he is co-editor and co-author, and "21st-Century Leadership: Redefining Management Education," in the journal Strategy and Business.

In his corporate career, Mark headed up Organizational Development and Training globally for the management consulting firm Booz Allen Hamilton, and he was Global Vice President of Human Resources and Professional Development for the executive search firm Korn/Ferry International. At Booz Allen he was the primary architect of the Booz Allen Curriculum and one of the drivers of the firm's human resources strategy, with responsibility across the whole portfolio of human capital initiatives. He also consulted with a number of Booz Allen's largest clients around the world on management development and organizational change challenges. Recruited to Korn/Ferry immediately after their listing on the NYSE, he led organizational and cultural change to help the firm's migration from a private sales-focused partnership to a publicly held professional services firm.

Prior to his career in the private sector, Mark taught at Harvard University for nearly a decade, where he also held several administrative positions. He was graduated with honors from the College of the Holy Cross, and took his Ph.D. in English Literature from Harvard University, during which time he received awards for his teaching as well as scholarships for research and study in the United States and abroad. Mark sits on the Board of Directors of the private equity firm Claredon Partners as well as Stay-Focused, an organization that teaches leadership and self-empowerment to kids in wheelchairs by certifying them in scuba-diving. He has traveled, worked, and taught in more than 60 countries around the globe.
